FOOD HAS A WAY OF CONNECTING US

Deep roots.
An open table.

Sendewicz is a multilingual journal for people who love the things that take a little time: pickled fish, good sausage, wine, cultured dairy and a garden of their own.

It starts with herring.

A jar of pickled herring can open a whole world: a Polish holiday table, a Dutch harbour, a Baltic smoking shed, a Black Sea market. We’re here for the details—the names, the regional differences, the small makers, the histories and the practical knowledge.

Poland and Ukraine at the heart.

Our roots are in Polish and Ukrainian traditions, with a particular curiosity about Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, Odesa and Bessarabia. The table extends through Eastern and Western Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, the Baltic and the wider world.

Something new every day.

Each day brings a new pantry puzzle and a word to learn in the language it comes from. Each Monday brings a new question and a vote for the table. Each month opens a new page of the kitchen almanac, with what to sow and what to look forward to. Come back whenever you are hungry for something new.

Bring it into your own kitchen.

Every story has a practical thread: how to learn the method, what to ask for in a shop, which ingredients matter, or where to look next. Readers in Canada, the United States and anywhere else are welcome.

The journal uses AI to research and write original summaries in English, with automatic translations for readers across Europe and direct source attribution. Our editorial approach explains the limits and the source notebook shows the publications behind the work. We’re starting without advertising.
